2024 Day 22 – Understanding Who We Are Online and Offline

In the age of social media, we often find ourselves living two lives - one online and one offline. But who are we truly?

In the age of social media, we often find ourselves living two lives – one online and one offline. But who are we truly? The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

This verse reminds us that our identity is not defined by the number of likes or followers we have but rather by our relationship with God. We are chosen, royal, holy, and special. This is who we are, both online and offline.

But it’s easier said than done when we find ourselves scrolling through our feeds, seeking to compare ourselves with others—feeling lonely even when we are connected to hundreds of people online. It’s a loneliness that comes from not knowing who we are.

Online and offline, I try to maintain authenticity and integrity by portraying myself in such a way that trust is gained in both realms and fosters genuine connections. I also seek to engage in meaningful interactions that reflect my values and beliefs both digitally and in person. So, let’s strive to be authentic, to be the same person online as we are offline. Let’s remember who we are in Christ and let that guide our actions, both in the digital world and in the real world.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How can you ensure your online persona reflects your true identity in Christ?
  2. In what ways can you combat loneliness and foster general connections with others?
  3. How can you use your online presence to declare the praises of God?
