2024 Day 11 – Repentance: Getting Ready for Christ’s Coming

Repentance is not merely an act; it is a change of heart. It is about recognizing our sins, feeling genuine sorrow, and making a conscious decision to turn away from our wrongdoings.

It is imperative that we are ready for the day of Christ’s return! Matthew 24:36 reminds us that no one knows when this time will come, except for God himself. Amidst the noise and distractions of this world, one biblical principle remains timeless and relevant – repentance.

The Bible tells us in Acts 3:19 (NIV) “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” This scripture emphasizes the importance of repentance in our spiritual journey. Not only do we need to repent, we must turn to God, so that He may strengthen us to turn away from those sins for good. Repentance is not merely an act; it is a change of heart. It is about recognizing our sins, feeling genuine sorrow, and making a conscious decision to turn away from our wrongdoings. It’s about seeking God’s forgiveness and striving to live according to His word. The verse emphasizes the need for God in our everyday lives so that we may not stumble when temptation passes.

In Luke 15:7 (NIV), Jesus says, “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” This parable of the lost sheep underscores the joy that repentance brings to heaven.

In today’s time and age, maintaining a heart of repentance is crucial. We live in a world where moral lines are often blurred, darkness is seen as light and light as darkness, and the world can easily justify our actions without considering their spiritual implications. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to uphold a higher standard.

In my own life, I try to make repentance a daily habit by asking the Lord to wash me clean of my sins and forgive me. I pray for my heart to be more like His, so I don’t make the same mistakes.  A heart of repentance keeps the heart humble and reminds us of our need for God’s grace. It transforms us from the inside out, leading to a life that reflects the love and goodness of God. A life that is ready for Jesus to come!
